Sorry for the delay, but here comes my second part of my year in review, my movies. Now, unlike music, which is much mroe accessible to listen to than to watch a new movie, there is no "top 20." Instead, I will look at the 15 movies I watched in theaters this year (2 of which are actually 2007 movies). The movies do not need to be released in 2008 to be on here, I just need to see them in 2008. For example, I plan to see Valkyrie after the New Year, so that will be included in the 2009 review.
Previous Winners
2006- The Devil Wears Prada
2007- Knocked Up
Now here goes the list, in reverse order starting with the worst.
#15 AVP: Reqiuem (Released in 2007)
A WASTE of time. So bad, and sad at the same time because I lvoe the Alien franchise and enjoy the Predator franchise. But this movie has TERRIBLE lighting!!! I couldn't see what was going on 95% of the time. Not to mention a horrible story, horrible acting, and horrible....everythign else lol. Please do not watch this. IT WILL MAKE YOUR EYES BLEED!!!!!
Rating: Two thumbs wayyyy down....shoving this film to the most bottomless pit in hell.
#14 Untraceable
Here we go again, another gross the hell otu of people and lack substance "horror" movie. Only problem is it isn't scary...or very realistic on that account. I'll give Diane Lane credit for trying to act well, but in the end she probably realized how ridiculous this movie was. Still, I watched it to be grossed out and it succeeded.
Rating: Two thumbs down, but not in AVP range lol
#13 The Day The Earth Stood Still
I smelt this bust coming from a mile away. The original, which I LOVE, was more about the message, story, and substance than this horrendous remake, which was about special effects (which were ok, not great though) and also mediocre everything else. Plus I liked the original being in black and white lol.
Rating: One thumb down (saved by special effects)
#12 The Eye
Creepy movie, very creepy movie. But the sad part was I didn't no what was going on half the time. OK, lady gets new eye. New eye is kinda doing weird things. After that, when Jessica Alba and friend go out on there search, I got bored and lost. Story was lousy, but it's ok because it's a "horror" film and it was slightly creepy.
Rating: One thumb down
#11 Eagle Eye
From one eye to the next, we go to Eagle Eye. This movie looked excitign from the trailers, but once the actual film got going, I jsut didn't get into it. The overall synopsis of super computers controlling others sounded inritguing on paper, but I jsut never was excited when the action was played out. Eagle Eye wasn't bad, it jsut wasn't my cup of tea
Rating: Thumbs sit apathetically in uncomfortable theater seat
#10 Vantage Point
A movie that I again liked the premise of, but in the end it just didn't deliver to me. At first sight, I enjoyed it watching the same event over and over again. But seriously, I look back on it and realize wow, the whole movie could have ended in 20 minutes. The movie tried to be Oscar gold and didn't come close, but oh well, it gets a top 10 on here
Rating: One thumb slightly (VERY slightly) up
#9 Wanted
This movie was a hell of a ride. Not much of a story, but a straight up hard ass action flick with awesome special effects. Why so low??? Because I think movies should have a total package, this had action, effects, and nothing else. Still, I recomend it to action lovers.
Rating: One thumb up
#8 Marley and Me
My most recent film seen, the cute one about a really disobdient but loving dog and a growing family, was sad but good. I thought it was enjoyable and though the plot was choppy, I felt that everything else worked fine. I didn't cry at the end, but others did and there were quite a few in numbers. Not a top notch film, but good family fun,
Rating: One thumb up
#7 21
This movie was another kick-ass movie, but unlike Wanted, it delivered a plot and better acting. Based off of a true story, this movie is about card counting in blackjack, but with some unexpectedly sweet action and fun in between. Definitly watch this film, it's a blast!!
Rating One thumb up
#6 The Strangers
Here is where people throw roteen tomatoes at me (bad joke there). I really enjoyed this film though!!! I felt the plot worked and everythign was typical horror, but the kicker here is that it was actually old-school SCARY. Like back in the day before gore fest like Saw, this is what was considered horror. For that I sing praise to this film, best horror movie since Wolf Creek (2004).
Rating: One thumb up
#5 Dark Knight
Oh no, more tomatoes??? Why is this film so low on my lsit you ask?? Because of that compelte package deal I talked about earlier. This movie has THE BEST acting of the year. The effects were GREAT as well. Unfortunatly, the plot was CHOPPY!!! I keep saying that and I'm getting turned down. This movie went too deep into the psychological aspect and that's what killed it. So, sorry Dark Knight buffs.
Rating: One thumb up
#4 Cloverfield
Hey, something semi-original!!! Monster movies are rare nowadays, but this film was a blast and halfway scary. The movement of the handheld camera ALA Blair Witch was key in factoring how good this film was. Plus add in that there was a feel of realism in this film that is missing in older monster movies ALA Godzilla
Rating: Two thumbs up for innovation
#3 Mamma Mia!
This IS the most fun movie I saw all year. The people in the theater played into this factor, everyone had a blast and it made me want to see te musical. But in any case, decnetly good singing, awesome songs, and a story I could easily follow. What a great film, I highly recommend it, even for guys.
Rating, Two thumbs up
#2 Iron Man
BETTER than Dark Knight. Why? It has a much better, linear plot. I know people may disagree, but I felt Iron Man and equally good effects and a better plot, though DK has it beat in acting. Still both are very enjoyable movies, I jsut thought Iron Man was better
Rating: Two thumbs up
#1 Juno
My film of the year, technically it came out in 2007 though. Fabulous acting, great storyline and an even better message about life. This film really touches the heart and, unlike Marley, has the intangibles to back it up. Congrats to Juno for being my top movie for 2008!!!
Tonight will be my top sports moments for each sport, I promise!!!

2008 in Review (Part 1 of 6) Top 20 Songs of the Year
Hey everybody, it's my first update to this blog in a couple months. Every year, for fun (and winter break boredom) I write up a sort of year in review thing. This will include the top songs of the year (right now), the top movies of the year (tonight), the top sports moments of the year (tomorrow afternoon), the worsts of 2008 (my favorite, tomorrow night), my sports teams review (new year's eve morning or night), and my own personal year in review (new year's eve night or new year's day).
Right now, we have my 3rd annual top songs of the year. I use a combination of the Billboard charts as well as ARC's end of the year chart as well as personal bias to make this list.
Previous #1 songs are:
2006- Too Little Too Late- Jojo
2007- Umbrella- Rihanna ft. Jay-Z
Away we go starting at #20
#20 4 Minutes- Madonna ft. Justin Timberlake
Madonna's First Appearence on my Top List
This was tough to put on my list, as there were other better sung songs (Better In Time, Pocketfull of Sunshine) that could have made this list. However, it came down to personal bias and the beat of this song didn't annoy as much as the other two. (I told you a lot of personal bias in involved). This is the first time Madonna is on my top 20 list in 3 years and hopefully the last.
#19 Sexy Can I- Ray J ft. Yung Berg
Ray J First Appearence
This is really not well rapped song, Ray J's One Wish a few years back was much better. However, this song really caught my ear back last spring when it was released and though it had weak staying power on me (and the charts) I felt it deserved a low spot.
#18 No Air- Jordin Sparks ft. Chris Brown
Jordin Sparks' First Appearence
It took a while for Jordin to get going after winning 6, she had nothing come out in 2007 that was noteworthy, but she got rolling and I chose No Air, a fabulous ballad with Chris Brown, for the list. This song is very well sung and succeeded on the charts. Why so low?? It's not a favorite of mine personally, but did so well I had to include it on this year's chart.
#17 Love In This Club- Usher ft. Young Jeezy
Usher's First Appearence
Well, with his first major single since his Confessions album, Usher was a huge hit, toppign tons of charts and the major kicker being named Entertainment Magazine's top single. That is what got him on this chart, that and his good singing in this one. Other than that, I didn't pay much mind to this one, but I would be killed for leaving it off.
#16 Time Of My Life- David Cook
David Cook's First Appearence
This year's Idol winner, but not who I voted for in the finale. The reason such a good singer such as Cook's hit single is so low is because this song isn't him. It's not his fault, he did what he could with it, but rather his first hit single ended up being a song that he didn't sing terribly well. Hopefully, bigger thigns are to come, but for winning this season's contest, David gets this spot.
#15 Shake It- Metro Station
Metro Station's First Appearence
Here's my dance song of the year, better in my mind then Calabria 2007, which was lats year's top dance mix. This song jsut wants you to get up and, well read the title (bad pun there). In any case, it's only a dance song and can't hold it's own any higher on this chart, but it might be the most fun song to dance to on here.
#14 Disturbia- Rihanna
2006- SOS (#5)
2007- Umbrella (#1), Shut Up and Drive (#9)
She has dominated my chart for the past few years, but for the first time, she misses the top 10!!! In my mind, Rihanna is slowly becomign more about glamour and less abotu singing, her vocals are declining rapidly. The reason this song even made it was the fun of shouting DISTURBIA!!! in the refrain. Rihanna's bad ass attitude worked last year, this year not so much.
#13 Hot N Cold- Katy Perry
Katy Perry's First Appearence
Surprised?? Some of you might be after saying how much Perry's overrated? Granted, I still hate I Kissed A Girl, but this song was much more entertaining and better sung, in my opinion. I hated it at first, but it is growing on me slowly and it had jsut enough of an impact to get on this chart. Expect to see more of Perry in the years to come.
#12 I'm Yours- Jason Mraz
Jason Mraz' First Appearence
Mraz came out of the blue this year with a song that simply warms the hearts of everyone and makes you think of the tropics in the cold of winter. I personally am not crazy about this song, but everyone else is and I still love his other hit The Remedy from a decade ago.
#11 Bottle It Up- Sara Bareilles
Sara's First Appearence
This year's only artist who is on here TWICE (you'll see her again in the top 10). This song was a bust on the charts and is really only known for ITunes commercials, but I enjoy the most out of all of her singles. With more chart popularity, it would have be a top 10 shoo-in. Unfortunatly, it stands as the lowest ranked song on this Top 20 on ARC and Billboard.
#10 American Boy- Estelle ft. Kayne West
Estelle's First Appearence
I had to get Kayne on here somewhere, but he has had a terrible year so nothing this time!!! Instead, he plays second fiddle to Estelle, who sings very well in one of my favorites of they year. Sadly, it was not well received among others and is forced to sit and stay at #10. Like Bottle It Up, it could have been so much higher.
#9 Let It Rock- Kevin Rudolf ft. Lil Wayne
Rudolf's First Appearence
This song really kicked ass. I like to think of it as my pump up song of the year, it always gets my blood pumping and me psyched about whatever. Is it totally the best song in the world vocal or beat wise? No, but it has that exciting vibe and that alone deserves a top 10 in my book.
#8 All Summer Long- Kid Rock
Kid Rock's First Appearence
Welcome back Kid Rock!!! I have always been iffy about his music, I have either loved or hated it. However, this songs incorporates Sweet Home Alabama and Werewolves of London, two favorite of mine, so this song caught me big time, plus it had so decent chart success. Unlike other old face on the chart Madonna, Kid Rock still has it.
#7 Womanizer- Britney Spears
Britney's First Appearence
Wait, WAIT I swore I would NEVER put a song from Spears on my chart!!! Why is this here??? What could possibly put this on my chart? Because this song managed to get stuck in my head, despite how bad it actually is, I can't get the stupid tune out of my head. You have to get some credit for that. Womanizer womanizer womanizer womanizer.
#6 Love Song- Sara Bareilles
2008- Bottle It Up (#11)
Sara really impressed me with her hit song Love Song. Though I feel Bottle It Up is vocally bette,r this is catchier and had tons of chart success. Many people question her as a one hit wonder and I certainly hope not, I think she is one of the more talented singers out there today.
#5 Crush- David Archuleta
Archuleta's First Appearence
Here is who I voted for in the finale!! I felt as though David was a better singer in the finale and also has the better single. Unlike his couterpart David, Archuleta has a single that fits his youth and excitement PERFECTLY!!! Plus it is sung pretty well (though he does have a slightly whiny twinge). Unlike otherIdol runner-ups, Archuleta has a bright career ahead of him.
4. Live Your Life- T.I. ft. Rihanna
T.I. First Appearence
This song does not count for Rihanna's career total (you must be the lead singer). However, in any case, this song is addicting in my mind and was a hit success on the charts. I liked the lyrics and this was the BEST rapped song of the year, which is strange because I never really liek T.I. before this. See what Rihanna's presence does to someone?
#3 Paper Planes- M.I.A.
M.I.A. First Appearence
Unique, that is all I can say. I never really thought much of this song until a month ao, actually, when I found myself listening to it again.....and again.....and again!!!! It's not the prettiest lookign song morally speaking, but its immense popularity alone wins it a top 3 spot. Definitly something different.
#2 Viva La Vida- Coldplay
Coldplay's First Appearence
This song has such an intirguing beat and intricing lyrics, you can't help but liek it. Everything about this song was close to perfect, insturmentally, writing, singing, I didn't find anything I didn't liek about this song. As a matter of fact, I think it is better than both previous #1 songs, however it was not good enough to beat this year's #1.....
#1 Bleeding Love- Leona Lewis
Leona's First Appearence
Wow, what a song!!!! I had a tough time leaving off Better In Time because Lewis is such a great singer, but this song blew me away. Lewis has to be one of the BEST singers I have heard in a while and deserves many accolades for this single. Congrats to Leona for winning the top spot on my chart!!!
Overall, I thought it was an excellant year for music, the best in the 3 years I did this chart, there were so many other hite I wanted to put in but left out. I think this year's top 3 easily beats both previous #1's let alone any other songs (or maybe my taste in changing.) Most of all, Rihanna was the only repeat face on my chart, there were 18 DEBUT ARTISTS on this year's chart.
Tonight, my top movies of 2008 will be here. Until then, so long!!!
Right now, we have my 3rd annual top songs of the year. I use a combination of the Billboard charts as well as ARC's end of the year chart as well as personal bias to make this list.

11-16-08
What a terribly boring day, basically no live sports on at all, so jsut a few news items to share
MLB
Here we go, with all the Sabathia buzz flying around, apparently a new rumor has the Yankees offering San Diego Ian Kennedy and Phill Hughes for Jake Peavy. Oh boy, how great would a Sabathia, Peavy, Wang rotation look, now THAT's pitching the Yanks haven't seen since their last championship in 2000. Only problem is, will Peavy go to New York? I don't see this happeneing, but it's fun to dream.
Also, no word of a Sabathia signing yet. The waiting game continues.
And one last side note, the Cubs will visit the Yankees April 3-4 to open the new (or should I say current??) Yankee Stadium.
NFL
Nothing much to talk about, except for the bidding on Texas Stadium memorabilia on bidspotter.com. The bids will be open until December 6th and I may look into bidding on some of the cheapee bathroom signs or used ketchup bottles. Stay tuned.
MSU Sports
Football will play in the ECAC South Central Bowl against Albright Saturday 1 PM at home, I will be there for all the action.
Soccer will be travleing to Chritopher Newport for the Sweet 16 and Elite Eight rounds this weekend, why they aren't at MSU I don't know.
Fantasy Football
I officially lost, I am now 4-7, my first ever losing season, and almost virtually out of the playoff race. Ho hum.
Fantasy Tennis
Another one and out doubles appearence in fantasy tennis, and the Chinese curshed us 8-6 to advance to the secodn qualifiying round. Tomorrow I will play singles, against a guy from Singapore. Hopefully I will win.
That is all for today. Tomorrow night the Raptors are in Orlando, so check in for that one. Until then, so long.

Sports on 11-16-08
Hello everyone, and welcome to my first blog post on this new sports blog. Basically, this blog is a general update on the sports for the day, I will post daily late at night on the day’s sports, I hope everyone enjoys.
NASCAR
The season concluded today at Homestead-Miami with Carl Edwards taking home the victory. However, it didn’t matter, as he came up short for the championship as Jimmie Johnson won the Sprint Cup, his third consecutive championship. I give my congrats to J.J. for the win, as he becomes the second driver to ever win 3 Cups in a row, he truly deserves it.
In other news, Jamie McMurray gets his third straight 3rd place finish. McMurray’s sudden last season surge actually got me to watch the last two races after being disgusted with his early season performance. Lt’s hope McMurray can stay with Roush-Fenway racing for 2009, because he is quite a talent and certainly can be a Chase contender.
That’s the last on NASCAR you’ll hear of a while, I’ll keep up on an Jamie McMurray offseason updates, but besides that, we will return to action in February at Daytona.
Montclair Sports
The Men’s Soccer is on to the Sweet 16 after a 1-0 win over Westminster College today. It was an exciting match with drama to the end. What disappointed me, however, was the lack of home fans at the game. Westminster at least matched us with the amount of fans they had. Attendance was just 454, way down from the NJAC Championship figure of 1,057. I mean, seriously, this is a team on a historical run, and no one cares. It makes me sick.
Also playing today were both men’s and women’s basketball. The women won their first game, taking down Immaculata 59-46. The men fell to 0-2, losing to New York City Tech 54-46.
NFL
Welcome back Tony Romo!!! Dallas recovered came out of their bye week with a 14-10 win over Washington in D.C. This was a huge momentum lifter for my ‘Boys and a reminder that Dallas, at 6-4, is very much in this playoff hunt still. I was impressed by the team in the 4th quarter and hope they carry their momentum into next week, at home against the 49ers.
By the way, in other NFL news, the Philadelphia Eagles and Cincinnati Bengals played to a tie game today in the worst pro football game in the 21st century. Just look at the amount of punts, turnovers and penalties and you’ll see what I mean. Disgusting how bad both teams really are. Pitiful.
NBA
Unfortunately, due to the MSU men’s soccer game, the Toronto Raptors got gypped from my TV schedule again. Fortunately, they defeated the Miami Heat 107-96, lifting their record to 5-4. Typical victory for us, Chris Bosh put up 27 points, Andrea Bargnani looked to disappoint again, and apparently Jose Calderon is hurt, so Wil Soloman started. Nothing groundbreaking here.
NHL
Apparently, the Flyer played the Thrashers tonight at home and I didn’t know until an hour ago, weird. I any case, the Flyers schooled the pitiful Atlanta Thrashers again, 4-3. My main man, Antero Niittymaki, played well, with 28 saves and his second win of the year. Simon Gagne continued his hot streak, and Joffrey Lupul won the game with 7 minutes left. Winning back to back nights is oh so sweet.
MLB
Well, it appears that the New York Yankees officially sent an offer to C.C. Sabathia and he will likely sign. Let’s just hope and prey he is the answer to the Yankee pitching dilemma, because we are DESPERATLY in need of a starter to at the very least complement Chien Ming Wang in the rotation, if not become the ace entirely.
Speaking of starting pitching, the Yankees sold Darrell Rasner’s contract to somewhere in Japan. Good riddance that atrocity is gone.
Fantasy Football
Sadly, it appears my season is over. I have lost an unprecedented 6th game to a North Division team as I lost to Chris Stout this week. My team is now 4-7 and tied for the worst record, with my first ever fantasy losing season guaranteed at this point. Oh well, there is always next year.
The final results will be in tomorrow, I finish up my schedule playing Jordan Palladino and Vince Zaccone the final two weeks. Time to play spoiler I guess.
Fantasy Baseball
Sometime this week postseason cuts will be made, I am already set and will release them when the day comes.
Fantasy Tennis
Despite the regular season ending, I continue to battle for ranking position to get a head start for the 2009 season. I am playing in an ITF tournament in Odense, Denmark. Singles play will start on Tuesday, but tomorrow I will play with my doubles partner, Ryan, in doubles qualifying against a pair of Chinese players whose names I do not know. Let’s hope for a victory.
Tomorrow’s Schedule
Nothing…..seriously……nothing at all, all my tams are off….no MSU sports…nothing.
Tomorrow’s blog will be shorter, I guarantee.
Thanks for reading.
Pitiful.
