1975 MLB Week 3

Wrapping up my double dip this week is week 3 for the MLB.


Detroit 2 NY Yankees 4
W- Rudy May (1-0)
L- Vern Ruhle (0-1)
S- Sparky Lyle (2)

In a battle of AL East undeated teams, Chris Cambliss had a two-run shot in the fifth that was the difference maker as the Yankees won 4-2 to improve to 3-0. Rudy May had a solid seven innings for the victory for the Yanks.


Houston 4 Los Angeles 3
W- Doug Konieczny (1-0)
L- Don Sutton (0-1)
S- Joe Niekro (1)

The Astros pulled off another shocker as they improved to 3-0 with a tight win over the Dodgers in L.A. A 8th inning Bob Watson home run was the winner for Houston as they held off a late Dodger rally to win.


Montreal 0 Pittsburgh 4
W- Jim Rooker (1-0)
L- Steve Renko (0-1)
S- Dave Giusti (2)

Rooker allowed just 4 hits in 8 innings of work as the Pirates took over first place in the NL East with a shutout of the Expos. Al Oliver and Richie Hebner had back to back home runs in the fourth for the Pirates.


CHI White Sox 1 Oakland 5
W- Dick Bosman (1-0)
L- Claude Osteen (0-1)
S- Rollie Fingers (1)

The Athletics had a 4 run first inning boosted by a Joe Rudi two run home run to give Oakland its third straight win. Dick Bosman allowed just one hit in 6 innings of work in getting the win.


St. Louis 6 CHI Cubs 7
W- Oscar Zamora (1-0)
L- Al Hrabosky (0-1)

In a wild battle at Wrigley, Don Kessinger hit a walk off single in the bottom of the ninth to give the Cubs their first win of the year. St. Louis held a 6-5 lead heading into the final inning before blowing it.


Kansas City 5 Minnesota 3 (11 innings)
W- Lindy McDaniel (1-0)
L- Bill Campbell (0-1)
S- Steve Mingori (1)

Tony Salata hit two home runs, including a game wiining shot in the top of the 11th to give the Royals their first victory of the season in Minneapolis. Mingori put down the Twins 1,2,3 in the bottom of the 11th to finish off the victory.


Cleveland 7 Baltimore 1
W- Roric Harrison (1-0)
L- Mike Torrez (0-1)

In 6 innings, Harrison allowed just 6 hits and a walk as the Indians upset the Orioles at Memorial Stadium. Oscar Gamble hit a home run in the game for the Indians.


San Francisco 11 Atlanta 7
W- Pete Falcone (1-0)
L- Jamie Easterly (0-1)
S- Gary Lavelle (1)

The Giants put up 6 runs in the first inning to give them a boost in a 11-7 win over the now 0-3 Braves. Sa n Francisco had a 6 run first inning highlighted by a Chris Speier grand slam.


NY Mets 3 Philadelphia 7
W- Larry Christenson (1-0)
L- Jon Matlack (0-1)

A 4 run first inning for the Phillies was all they needed to defeat the Mets at the Vet. Mike Schmidt also had home runs in the fifth and seventh innings to account for Philly's other 3 runs in the game.


Boston 13 Milwaukee 6
W- Bill Lee (1-0)
L- Jim Colburn (0-1)

At Milwaukke County Stadium, the Red Sox put a 13 spot up on the Brewers in a blowout. Carlot Fisk went 3 for 6 in the game, including a 3 run homer as part of a 6run 8th inning, to help the Sox to 2-1.


Cincinnati 12 San Diego 0
W- Fred Norman (1-0)
L- Dave Freisleben (0-1)

At the Murph, the Big Red Machine was motoring and Norman threw a 6 hit shutout to give Cincinnati an easy win. A Johnny Bench two run hommer capped off a 6 run fifth inning that gave Cincy a 11-0 lead at that point.


California at Texas PPD (Rain)
With a steady rain falling in Arlington all day long, the Angels-Rangers game was postponed. The teams will make it up as part of a double header next week in Anaheim.
