sorry, I had to skip yesterday's post, I was busy, but today will be a double psot with MLB coming late tonight. Right now here is the recap from the Richmond 500.
I am doing weather for all outdoor sports for now, it was a non factor at Richmond with sunny skies and temps of about 55.
It was by far the most exciting of the three races thus far this season with 5 different drivers leading the 19 segments of the race. The winner ended up being an old veteran, 47 year old Elmo Langley, who won his third career race in 21 years and his first since 1966. Langley is in his final season as a full time driver, he will move to a part time schedule in 1976.
David Pearson in th Wood Brothers #21 won the pole and led the first segment, but blew hsi engine in segment #2 and finished 37th. This allowed part-timer Joe Frasson to take control of the race. Frasson led all the way through segment 10, gaining 10 bonus points for leading the most laps. Unfortunatly, on lap 11, Frasson had to stay late on a pit stop to repair sheet metal and fell back to 18th place. He later blew his engine on the 18th segment and finished 22nd.
Darrell Waltrip would take the lead on the 11th lap pit stops after Frasson's debacle, but lost it the next segment to Richard Childress. Childress led the race through lap 14, but then lsot the lead to Langley, who started 24th and worked his way through the pack. Langley would hold off the top 2 standings leaders Richard Petty and Dave Marcis late to take the checkered flag. Full results are below.
