Here is week 3 of the NHL's 1975-76 season, a day late.
Los Angeles 5 Washington 6 (OT)
The upset of the day came in D.C. where the Capitals handed the Kings their first loss. Butch Goring had a hat trick for Los Angeles, whcih was matched by a hat trick from the Caps' Nelson Pyatt. Stan Gilbertson had the OT winner for Washington.
Chicago 3 Vancouver 2 (OT)
In a battle between top Smythe Division rivals, the Blackhawks took down the Canucks in OT. Ivan Boldariv scored 2 minutes into overtime to finish the game with 2 goals and an assist in the win.
Boston 3 Buffalo 6
The Sabres scored four first period goals to cruise to a win over Boston and take first place in the Adams Division. Rick Martin had a goal nad 2assist while Gilbert Perrault added 3 assists for Buffalo, who is now 3-0-0.
Atlanta 7 Minnesota 5
The Flames are now 3-0-0 after a wild win over the North Stars. The Flames had 5 goals in the 1st period. Curt Bennett had a hat trick and Bill Flett had 2 goals and an assist for Atlanta.
Pittsburgh 1 Montreal 4
The Canadiens go to 3-0-0 after a win over the Penguins. Guy Lafleur had 2 goals and an assist to lead Montreal, who also got good goaltending from Ken Dryden. The Pens fall to 1-2-0.
California 2 Toronto 1
A LArry Patey thrid period goal was the game winner for the Golden Seals as they won their first game of the season over Toronto. Giles Meloche had 45 saves in net for California.
NY Rangers 2 Philadephia 8
It was all Flyers at the Spectrum as they won their first game in huge fashion. Gary Dornhoefer had 3 goals and an assist and Bobby Clarke had 4 assists to lead the Flyers to an easy win.
Kansas City 2 St. Louis 7
The Blues socred 7 goals in the first two periods for an easy win over the hapless Scouts at the Barn. Wayne Merrick had 3 goals for the Blues and Jerry Butler added two as the Blues go to 2-1-0.
Detroit 1 NY Islanders 8
At Nassau Coliseum, the Islanders trashed the limping Red Wings. Clark Gillies, Billy Harris, J-P Parise all scored twice for the Islanders, who go to 3-0-0 on the season.
