In a wild battle at Three Rivers, Richie Hebner hit a walk off single in the bottom of the 11th to propel the Pirates to 4-0. Hebner had 3 RBIs in the game, while Dick Allen did the same for the losing Phillies, who are now 2-2.
NY Yankees 4 Detroit 6

S- Tom Walker
A 3 run homer by Willie Horton in the third inning helped the Tigers defeat the previously undefeated Yankes at Tiger Stadium. Larrin Lagrow allowd 7 hits in 6.2 innings of work for the win.
California 3 Texas 1
W- Nolan Ryan
L- Gaylord Perry
S- Mickey Scott
In game one of a doubleheader, a "home" game in Anaheim for Texas, the Rangers could only muster 6 hits off of Nolan Ryan and lost their first game 3-1. California scored two unearned runs in the first inning that was enough for the win.
Texas 5 California 2

L- Don Kirkwood
With the game tied at 2 going into the ninth, the Rangers had 4 singles, scoring 3 runs to give them a win and a split of the doubleheader and season series. Jeff Buroughs had the winning hit for the Rangers.
NY Mets 0 Montreal 2
W- Woody Fryman
L- Randy Tate
S- Don Demola
Woody Fryman allowed just 5 hits in 7.2 innings as the Expos shutout the Mets at Jarry Park. Gary carter and Barry Foote each had RBI singles to account for both Montreal runs.
Atlanta 1 Los Angeles 4
W- Burt Hooton
L- Buzz Capra
S- Mike Marshall
Burt Hooton through 7 innings of 4 hit ball to help the Dodgers to a win over hapless Atlanta. Steve Garvey had a two run homer in the fourth inning to cap off the Dodger scoring.
San Francisco 29 Houston 6
W- Ed Halicki
L- Dave Roberts
That's not a misprint, the prviously undefeated Astros got a rude awakening at the Astrodom as they got embarrassed. Derrel Thomas, Mobby MErcer, and Gary Matthews all had 5 RBIs in th crazy Giant victory.
Milwaukee 6 Cleveland 1
W- Bill Travers
L- Don Hood
S- Eduardo Rodriguez
At Memorial Stadium, Darrel Porter had a 2 run single and an RBI double to help the Brewers to their first win of the year. Bill Travers allowed just one run in 6 innigns for the win
Baltimore 10 Boston 8
W- Doyle Alexander
L- Reggie Cleveland
S- Wayne Garland
Ken Singleton had two doubles and a single as the Orioles won a back and forth battle for the Red Sox. Dennie Doyle had 4 htis for the Sox, but bad pitching led to a loss.
San Diego 5 Cincinnati 15
W- Pedro Borbon
L- Dan Spillner
At Riverfront, George Foster had 3 home runs as the Reds blew out the Padres 15-5. Foster had a grand slam, a 3 run shot, and a solo home run as well as an RBI single to help Cincinnati in the win.

With a cold front movign through the midwest, heavy rains fell across the region, resulting in three postponed games. They will all be made up as doubleheaders when the teams are scheduled to meet later in the season.
