It is now week 7 of the NFL and the standings are beginning to shape up.
San Francisco 10 Houston 16 (OT)
At the Astrodome, the Oilers improved to 5-1 with an overtime win over the Niners. Dan Pastorini found Fred Willis for a 34 yard touchdown to win the game for Houston. Ronnie Coleman also had a rushing TD for the Oilers in the 1st quarter.
Denver 14 Buffalo 16
At Rich Stadium, the Bills pulled off an upset over the AFC West leaders. Two Jonh Leypoldt field goal in the fourth helpd Buffalo come from behidn as Denver got two TD passes for scores.
Atlanta 10 Philadelphia 13
At Veterans Stadium, the Eagles scored all 13 of their points in the 2nd quarter to defeat the Falcons. The lone Eagles touchdown from a Roman Gabriel 46 TD pass to Charle Young.
New Orleans 27 NY Giants 23
At Shea, the Saints came back from down 23-7 and scored 20 points in the final nine minutes of the game to down the Giants. All three touchdowns in those final minutes were rushing, with one from Rod McNeill and two from Alvin Maxson.
New England 24 Cleveland 34
A 21 point 2nd quarter helped vault the Browns to their first win of the season. Cleveland got two Greg Pruitt rushing TDs in the game and a 55 yard inerception return from Jim Hill for a touchdown.
Minnesota 16 St. Louis 6
At Busch Stadium, the Vikings took down the Cardinals in a hard fought tight defensive battle. A Fran Tarkenton 9 yard pass to John Gilliam was the lone touchdown i nthe game for Minnesota.
Green Bay 3 Dallas 12
Another defensive battle took place at Texas Stadium, where the Cowboys effectively outkicked the Packers 4 field goals to 1. Tony Fritisch was 4 for 4 for the Cowboys as the defense held the Pakcers to 183 yard of total offense.
Detroit 22 Washington 14
At RFK, the Lions improvd to 4-3 with a win over the struggling Redskins. Detroit got two touchdown passes from quarterback Joe Reed to help them to the win. Washington falls to 2-5 after the loss.
Los Angeles 23 Chicago 3
At Soldier Field, the Bears could not do anything against the tough Rams. Los Angeles got a pair of touchdown pass from James Harris and the defense held the Bears out of scoring range for the win.
Kansas City 20 San Diego 44
The Chiefs continue to struggle as they are now 0-7 after being demolished in San Diego. Dan Fouts thre four touchdown passes to four different receivers and got two rushing touchdowns on their way to victory.
Miami 3 Oakland 36
In a surprising blowout, the Raiders jumped out to a 31-3 halftime lead en route to a win over a solid Dolphin squad. Ken Stabler threw four touchdowns in the game, three of them coming in the second quarter.
NY Jets 10 Baltimore 42
At Memorial Stadium, the Colts put a thrashing on the Jets. Lydell Mitchell had a monsterous day, running for 224 yards and three touchdowns, while Bert Jones threw for three TDs in the win for Baltimore.
Cincinnati 9 Pittsburgh 52
The Steelers got major revenge from an early season loss to Cincy with a 43 point drubbing at Three Rivers. Franco Harris scored 4 TDs all rushign and Rocky Bleir had 2 rushing touchdowns of his own for Pittsburgh.
