NY Islanders 4 Vancouver 5 (OT)
The Islanders lose their first game of the season against the Canucks in Vancouver. With 48 seconds left in OT and the Canucks up two men, Chris Oddleifson put one past Billy Smith for the win for Vancouver.
Philadelphia 2 Los Angeles 1 (OT)
In another OT game at the Forum, the Flyers outlasted the Kings. Just over two minutes into OT, Bill Barber scored the game winner for Philly. Wayne Stephenson made 27 saves in net for the Flyers.
Toronto 4 Montreal 5
At the Montreal Forum, the Canadiens got a scare from the Maple Leafs but pulled out a win. One a late third period two man advantage, Yvon Lambert scored the winning goal for the Habs. Steve Shutt also scored twice for Montreal.
St. Louis 5 Minnesota 3
A big third period by the Blues led a comeback effort in a win over the North Stars at the Met. Garry Unger scored twice for St. Louis including an empty netter to ice the game. Minnesota is now 0-5-1 on the year.
Chicago 1 Atlanta 4
At the Omni, the Flames manhandled the Blackhawks to go to 6-0-0 on the season. Atlanta got a goal nad an assist from Bill Flett and Hilliard Graves in the game. Dan Bouchard stopped 34 shots for the Flames in net.
Buffalo 6 Washington 3
At the Capital Center, the Sabres had no problem defeating the Caps. Danny Gare scored twice for Buffalo and Rick Martin led the team with two goals and an assist. Jocelyn Guevremont also had three assists for the 4-1-1 Sabres.
Detroit 2 Boston 6
At the Garden, the Bruins dispatched the struggling Red Wings. John Bucyk scored twice for the Bruins in the game as 16 different Boston players registered a point. Boston is tied with Buffalo in the Adams at 4-1-1.
Kansas City 2 NY Rangers 7
The Rangers ran away with the game over the Scouts at the Garden. Jean Ratelle had two goals and three assists and Rod Gilbert had two goals and two assists as the first line was rolling for New York. The Scouts are now 0-6-0.
Pittsburgh 8 California 0
Things were ugly in Oakland as the Golden Seals got ran out of their home arena. Pierre Laroche and Chuck Arnason each had two goals for the Pens and goalie Michel Plasse had 24 saves for the shutout.
